How to remember the 12 times table
The 12 times table is the 10 times table plus the 2 times table: 7 × 12 = 70 + 14 = 84. It is the last table in the Multiplication Tables Check and the one that turns up in time and money problems.
When children learn it
In England the 12 times table belongs to Year 4, and by the end of Year 4 every table up to 12 × 12 is expected to be known by heart. That deadline is set by the Multiplication Tables Check, the statutory online test taken in June: 25 questions, six seconds for each one, with the 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 times tables weighted most heavily because they are the ones children find hardest.
Practise it in the game

A wrong answer costs a few segments rather than ending the game, and there is no clock at all, so a child who is still working the answer out is never punished for being slow.
Reciting is not the same as knowing
A child can chant the 12 times table in order and still stall on 12 × 7 when it is asked on its own. Chanting helps at the start, but real fluency means any single fact coming back in about three seconds without counting up. Mixing the facts, which the game does as the snake grows, is what turns a chanted list into something usable in division and in word problems.
